What is Reiki?

Reiki is a healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words 'Rei'- which means “Universal Life” and 'Ki'- which means “Energy”. Reiki is the universal life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage, nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work.

It is believed that when a person’s “ki”, or energy, is strong and free flowing, then a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When one's energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy within, and they use Reiki to help unblock and strengthen their client's energy, help them to reconnect with the universal life energy, and thus promote healing. A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. Reiki aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. A session is pleasant and relaxing. While receiving Reiki you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes removed, under a comfortable blanket if you choose. Light, relaxing music is typically played. Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed. Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested. A session can either be hands-on, where your Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched they can indicate this to the Practitioner before they begin.

A typical session lasts about 60 minutes. A discussion will usually take place with your Reiki Practitioner during your initial session. They will describe the session, give an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues, and ask about your goals and what you are hoping to achieve from your session. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first session as you will need to complete a short client information, health history and consent form.

The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions.

During a session you may feel a warming sensation, a tingling sensation, or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.

Reiki is a great tool for stress reduction, pain relief, easing anxiety, aiding healing and promote relaxation. Many people use Reiki as part of their regular wellness and healthy-lifestyle routine. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate and/or speed healing. Reiki is a great tool to use as a complement to traditional medicine and is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings.

What is Reflexology?

The healing art of Reflexology is far more than a foot or hand massage. Reflexology is a pressure technique. A Reflexologist uses distinct techniques and movements to apply pressure to specific "reflexes", and thus relax the body, release tension, improve circulation, and aid the body to come back to a natural balance.

The theory behind Reflexology is that these areas of the foot or hand correspond to various organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to these points is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body.

Several clinical studies indicate that Reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep.

A typical session lasts about 60 minutes. A discussion will usually take place with your Reflexology Practitioner during your initial visit. They will describe the session, give an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues, and ask about your goals and what you are hoping to achieve from your treatment. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first visit as you will need to complete a short client information, health history and consent form.

While receiving Reflexology you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes and socks removed, under a comfortable blanket if you choose.  Light, relaxing music is typically played. Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested, as your Reflexologist will be working on your feet and up to about halfway up your calves. If you are receiving hand reflexology your therapist will be working your hands and forearms.

During a session you will feel light pressure on the areas being worked. You may also feel a warming sensation or a tingling sensation or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, and relaxing.

Given that Reflexology is low risk, it is an excellent option for anyone seeking relief from stress and tension, anxiety, depression, acute and/or chronic pain, headaches, migraines, constipation, and/or seeking to promote their general health and well-being, relaxation and more. Many people use reflexology as part of their regular wellness and healthy-lifestyle routine, and it is widely offered in many wellness studios, clinics, hospitals and many other health care settings.
