Cyriax Massage Therapy

Othopaedic Therapy for Muscular Strain or Disorder

Cyriax Massage Therapy is the treatment of soft tissue lesions around the body. The major goal of this massage is to move transversely across a muscle, tendon or ligament to mobilize it as much as possible.

The scope of treatment includes lesions of ligaments, tendons, muscles and joint capsules along with lesions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines. This technique often precedes active exercise. Deep transverse friction massage restores mobility to a muscle in the same way that mobilization frees a joint. The massage will be directly over the site of lesion and pain. The fingers move with the skin and do not slide over it. The thicker the structure, the more the friction will be given. The technique is to sweep back and forth over the full width of the tissue.

The basic principles of Cryiax Massage Therapy are:

1) Every pain has a source.
2) Treatment must reach the source.
3) Treatment must benefit the source in order to relieve the pain.

Most sources of pain in the musculoskeletal system can be localized to a specific tissue. We look carefully in a systematic manner to isolate the cause of pain, and then treat it specifically. A specific diagnosis leads to successful treatment.

Cyriax Massage Therapy is different from traditional massage therapy in the sense that it does not require any removal of clothing or application of oil. When you come in for a Cyriax Massage Therapy treatment please be sure to wear clothing that is not stiff or rigid. A light material that also allows for optimal movement would best suit this treatment.
